Sankranti, the harvest festival
Hello friends! Today I am going to tell about the festival, Sankranti. Sankranti is
celebrated around 15th of January every year. It remarks the month when the
Sun enters The House of Capricorn.
Sankranti is an auspicious
festival. People make a rice dish called 'Pongal' and offer it to the
Sun God. We also fly kites on this day. Hence, it is known as 'The Kite
Festival'. People distribute sweets and traditional food such as Tilgul (made of sugar granules, sesame seeds and jaggery).
Flying kites is the
most entertaining activity on Sankranti. Makar Sankranti is called Bihu
in Assam. We enjoy very much on Sankranti. We pray to the Sun God on
Sankranti. But the use of plastic kites causes pollution. We must stop
using plastic or plastic will destroy Mother Earth and us.
Use eco-friendly kites or make your own kites on the coming Sankranti. Stay against plastic and stop pollution. Thank you
