New Year
Firstly I am wishing you and all your family members an advance happy new year. Hope you have a happy and prosperous year ahead. People in different countries ring in the new year and bid good bye to the old one with unique traditions. So, here are some strange new year's eve traditions. However, all the traditions are believed to bring happiness,prosperity and good luck.
In Philippines, all things are considered auspicious and symbolise prosperity for the new year. It is therefore a tradition on new year's eve to consume and display round fruits and wear dresses with polka dots.
In Denmark, it is a tradition to throw old dishes against the doors of family and friends to expel bad spirits. They also jump off chairs at midnight to leap into January in hopes of good luck.
In Spain, people eat 12 grapes, one for each stroke of the clock at midnight on new year's eve. It is believed to bring good luck and happiness for the 12 months ahead.
In Japan, when the clock strikes 12 at midnight on 31st December, the Buddhist temple's bell ring 108 times. This is believed to ward off evil desires such as greed and anger that is said to exist in humans.
In Chile, people visit graveyards on this day as they believe that their loved ones wait for them in the cemetery and they should start the new year with them.
In Greece, people bake a special bread or cake by burying a coin in the dough. The one who finds the hidden coin is considered to have the luck and wealth in the coming year.
