The Sports Day
It was a beautiful Saturday morning, with the sunrays scattering on the world, making it appear as a flower with the charm to attract a horde of buzzing bees in a jiffy. The alarm went off waking up Allie from her dreamy sleep. Allie was a schoolgirl, an all-rounder known for her extraordinary feats both in studies and sports at the tender age of 15 years. She was also a suitable friend and an excellent accomplice for the innocent crimes of school days. Certainly, she was liked by all- whether it was the teachers or the classmates or the friends of hers.
Back to the Saturday morning. After getting ready for the day, she hopped down the stairway to the dining for an healthy and energizing breakfast. Here lay the breakfast plate, piled with a scrumptious and mouth-watering meal.
“Good morning mom!”, Allie wished cheerfully.
“Good morning dear! So, what's there in today? All the best for your race!”, answered her mother, donning a smile while working in the kitchen .
Allie smiled back and said," Nothing. Just expecting the better self. Thanks, by the way, I promise I shall win."
After finishing her breakfast, she licked her lips with satisfaction and headed for the door. She looked at her brand new sports shoes which she had bought a day before. Her mind wound back to the last month when she used to get up early and go for a practice everyday, preparing for today. She remembered the way she balanced her studies and thought to herself, "I must do this. I must win and make my efforts worth it. I must make my parents proud.”
While she was strolling down the memory lane, the school bus honked and screeched to a stop in front of her bungalow. She wore the shoes and boarded the waiting bus, waved her mother adieu and joined her noisy schoolmates, heading for the school to enjoy a happily sweaty, frenzy sports day to mark yet another achievement in her school-life.
