Tiger The National Animal
I have a very important matter to talk to you about today. Tigers are almost extinct!!!! This is because poachers hunt them for their skin and bones. If we don’t do some thing they will soon be completely wiped out just like the dinosaurs. Recently in our science class we learnt about food chains. The tiger is at the very top of the chain and that is an APEX predator! If it is no more the who pyramid will crumble and eventually us, the humans will also die out.
Just a few years ago tiger numbers had dropped to pathetic levels, but our then prime minister, Mrs Indira Gandhi, made a law that it was a criminal offence to kill tigers. Which means if you kill a tiger you end up behind bars!!! She also created many reserve forests to make sure these creatures have a safe environment. This was known as Project Tiger
Tigers are beautiful creatures and I can vouch for that as I saw one in Nagarhole sitting on a log, near a watering hole. And it looked FANTABULOUS!!! Here are a few fun facts.
Did you know that every tiger has unique stripes! And also that they live only about 15 years, the one I saw was a 5 year old mother. There are also white tigers, living in Siberia, which is very cold. These are much bigger than the Bengal tigers of India. The tiger is our national animal.
So friends lets join hands to learn and educate people about the Save the Tiger campaign. And make sure we can still see them in the wild and not just in books and television.
Thank you
