Corona Virus

 Corona Virus is a group of related RNA viruses that cause diseases in mammals and birds.In humans and birds,they cause respiratory tract infections that can range from mild to lethal.Mild illnesses in humans include some cases of the common cold while more lethal varities can cause covid 19.They are enveloped viruses with a positive sense single standard RNA genome and a nucleocapsid of helical symmetry.The genome size of corona virus ranges from approximately 26 to 32 kilobases,one of the largest among RNA viruses.They have characteristic club shaped spikes that project from their surface,which in electron micrographs create an image reminiscent of the solar corona,from which their name derives.The ongoing global pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 is caused by severe acute reapiratory syndrome coronavirus 2.The novel virus was identified in Wuhan,china in December 2019 a lockdown in Wuhan and other cities in Hubei province failed to contain the outbreak and it spread to other parts of mainland China and around the world.The pandemic has resulted in severe global social and economic discription including the largest global recession since the great depression of the 1930s.It has led to widespread supply shortages exacerbated by panic buying, agricultural disruption,food shortages and decreased amissions of pollutants.Numerous educational institutions and public areas have been partially or fully closed,and many events have been cancelled or postponed.Misinformation has circulated through social media and mass media and political tensions have been axacerbated.The pandemic has raised issues of racial and geographic discrimination, healthy equity and the balance between public health imperatives and individual rights.
