The History Of Buddha
Do you about the history of Lord Buddha? I know sometimes we may think history sounds old or boring but this biography really makes history! Well now you will know more of the idol you see in most of the places. Siddhartha Gauthama is known as Buddha who was born in 563 BCE. He is the founder of the religion - Buddhism. We all see and know him by name while we sight any statues of his but there is more to know about what made him be a person/God who is preached by many. He was born in Lumbini near Nepal. He was the son of a king - Suddhodana. While he was a kid, he would always stay in the castle and would not even know about the world and had no such thing called suffering in his life. As he grew up , he ventured out to know what's beyond the doors of the castle and then he saw his "Four Great Sights". The four sights which were an old man, a sick man, a dead body and an ascetic. These four sights moved him and he just realized about life, death and suffering in world.
After sighting these, he made up his mind to find answers for it. Later , through meditation and dedication, he attained enlightenment in Bodhgaya and was known as the enlightenment one. Then , he set out to spread Buddhism , a religion which doesn't encourage inequality, violence and discrimination. He spread Buddhism even past the Indian shores and gained royal patronage from contemporary rulers. His tea things are compiled in documents called - "Suttas" and his past lives' tales are also complied in a book called "Jatakas".
Now we are done with the history and have amazing facts about his statues. We all have or heard of sleeping Buddha statues.. well its significance is out of ordinary. It signifies the time after his journey achieving enlightenment, he awaits his journey to Parinirvana in which nirvana means the cycle of death and rebirth. We have also heard about laughing Buddha..so this statue is kept to bring luck and happiness. As we rub the belly of the statue...it brings good luck to us.
