Religious Developments
Hello blog readers today I am gonna say about the religious developments that took place in India so let's get started.
The advent of the Turkish rule in India led to a fusion of new cultural traditions and religious norms in India. As Hindu and Muslim communities lived side by side for many years, influenced the social fabric of the other. A cultural fusion and synthesis occurred that led to the growth of a composite culture popularly known as the Indo-Islamic culture. As spirit of tolerance and brotherhood developed between the two communities. Both experienced a wave of religious reform movements- in the form of the Sufi and Bhakti movements. The Muslim rulers encouraged these developments as they realised that to establish peaceful rule over a predominate Hindu population mutual interaction and harmony between the two religious communities was essential.
Sufi Movement.
Sufism is a mystic tradition of Islam. It was a reform movement within Islam with an emphasis on love and compassion towards all human beings. The Sufis rejected the elaborate rituals and codes of behavior demanded by the Muslim scholars.
Sufism was introduced in India after the establishment of the Delhi Sultanate in the beginning of twelfth century. The Sufis were further influenced by the ideals of Hinduism and Buddhism in India. Like the Buddhist sangha, the Sufis established many orders or silsihas, such as Chishti and the Suhrawardy. These two orders became very popular in India. In India, The Sufi Movement was founded by Moinuddin Chisti. His dargah is situated in Ajmer. It is a very well-known pilgrimage center both for Muslims and Hindus.
